SUPERAntiSpyware
Recently (well, kind of) SUPERAntiSpyware gave me a free “Lifetime Subscription” which is available from their site, here. A lifetime subscription will run you$ 9.95, which is a decent price. So, I gave it a shot on my PC. (Actually, Bootcamp on a MacBook Pro)
Well, it worked great, found about 3 things… I then ran a Spybot Search and Destroy scan that found 10 more. Not to take away from SAS, (SUPERAntiSpyware) I have to admit that 3 of those were browser tracking cookies. On program startup, you’re presented with a user-friendly UI, that is helpful and usable for novices and experts alike. On Windows startup, you’re presented with a nice little splash screen, that froze and slowed windows until I opened Task Manager and killed the process. This happened about 2 out of 3 times that I started Windows, so that’s something to take into consideration.
On top of that, I also monitored the RAM Memory that it used because of the slowing that I noticed. At one point it was taking over 200,000 Memory Usage (not even during a user-started scan!) There are ups and downs, as Heather noted, on the Google Installer Virus Removal Post. So give it a trial, if you enjoy it, purchase a license and support these folks. If you’re a penny pincher, head over to this post on the Security Toolbox essentials!
Great to know… I’ll have to look this one up. Thank you!
